arcsecond.io aims at bringing all astronomy data to the cloud. Objects, exoplanets, FITS archives, publications, finding charts, telescopes, observing sites, everything. As well as your data... Because we believe in the force of integration

For that, arcsecond.io is build on two feet: 'api' and 'www'. The first one aims at providing browsable REST APIs where each piece of astronomical information has its own Uniform Resource Locator (a.k.a. URL). That's the BigData part. It is mostly dedicated to developers, hackers and data-scientists.

And the second is a modern (AngularJS) webapp to provide dedicated services and tools for astronomers worldwide. This part is for everyone wanting to find astro data, informations and events in a single integrated place.

As for now, we are busy with 3 things.

  • First Observing Sites. We build a community-curated list of all observing sites in the world! Check it out here: www.arcsecond.io/observingsites
  • Second, we build data-dashboards to see where and what data is being taken in the big observatories in the world. You can check our first (ESO-only) draft work: www.arcsecond.io/archives
  • Third, user-dashboards to let everyone log in, and customise what he/she is interested in, and follow objects, people, data, publications...
